Some people have England as outsiders to win the World Cup, but based on yesterday's performance, that sentiment may not last much longer.

Sonia's Place on Waltham Park Road was one of the few bars in which patrons seemed genuinely interested in 'The Three Lions' as they took on the 'Carthage Eagles' of Tunisia yesterday.

But instead of getting lions, the patrons complained bitterly, perhaps likening the England team to more like lost sheep.

"Fi real England, how unuh suh rux?," asked one fan. Even Jamaica-born Raheem Sterling wasn't spared any of the fiery words.

"Seriously bredda. Tunisia can win dah match yah?," asked one patron who was clearly looking for an England win.

"Yes man," came the reply. "Especially if dem get another penalty." The latter statement elicited much laughter from the patrons as they watched England have to dig deep to beat one of the tournament minnows.

England had captain and centre forward Harry Kane to thank, as he showed the instincts of a true goal poacher to score both England's goals.

His first was a toe poke after starting keeper Mouez Hassen somewhat miraculously kept out a header from a corner. He would later have to be replaced due to injury.

PENALTY

But Tunisia, who to be fair did not come to merely make up the numbers, hit back with a Ferjani Sassi penalty, after the referee deemed Kyle Walker to have committed a foul in the 18-yard box.

"Nuh him (the forward) run up inna di man?," one viewer asked of the referee. The sentiment was shared by others who felt that the decision was 'soft' at best.

The brightly coloured bar, adorned with the logos of various European football clubs including Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, attracted a fair group of passers-by and motorists as well.

Horns blared from impatient drivers who were stuck behind persons taking a glimpse of the match from the nearby street.

But with Tunisia tiring and England pressing, the England hopefuls were still holding on to hope for a win.

"A 3-1 it a done man," said one man, who stuck his head into the bar entrance for literally five seconds to see the score.

Just when it seemed Tunisia would hold on for a famous draw, another corner saw Kane popping up again to steer a wide open header past a dejected substitute keeper Farouk Ben Mustapha.

The goal got persons literally jumping from their seats for the first time in the rather lacklustre game.

As they filed out, some patrons predicted that Kane would go on to get the Golden Boot as the tournament's leading scorer.
