Health department orders closure of court office

October 16, 2015

The St Catherine Health Department has ordered the closure of the Spanish Town court office.

It was revealed that sections of the building are in a terrible state. The Star learn of rat infestation along with cock roaches parading and damaging files in the offices. It was noticed that there is no proper toilet tissue in the bathrooms, which are open for all to enter.

representatives from the health department also took photographs of an open hole at the front of the building where rats play hide and seek. It is understood that the authorities have given the court 30 days to vacate the building or face legal action.

Chief Public Health Inspector, Richard Baker, acknowledged the action taken against the court office. "I don't have much to say other than a notice was served there," Baker said.

There have been occasions when staff at the court house offices protested against the poor working conditions. In fact a building in another section of the town was identified as a possible replacement for the White Church Street location.

Attempts to get a comment from court administrator Leonie Face-Williams was unsuccessful as an employee said "she said that she will not speak about the incident".
