Couple shot dead, 8-y-o injured in MoBay
A man and a woman, said to be a couple, were shot dead by gunmen while gambling in the Railway Lane community in St James, yesterday afternoon. An eight-year-old girl was injured in the attack.
The two deceased were identified as Angella Scarlett and Damian Miller, who operated a small stall.
According to police reports, about 4:20 p.m. the two were among residents gambling under a tree when they were pounced upon and shot multiple times. Miller died on the spot, while Scarlett died on her way to hospital. The child was also taken to hospital, but, according to reports, her condition is not life threatening.
The murder scene was visited by Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, the commanding officer for St James. McGregor condemned this gruesome attack and said the police have a clue where the incident is coming from and will be thoroughly investigating the matter.
McGregor reported that at least 96 per cent of the murders committed in the parish are committed by the guns. He added that 16 illegal guns have been seized in St James since the 'Get the Guns' campaign started in September.
