Woman stabs pregnant friend to death, cuts baby from her

An American woman is now undergoing psychiatric evaluation and is facing multiple criminal charges after she allegedly stabbed her pregnant friend to death then cut the baby  from the woman’s womb on Friday, the New York Daily News reports.

Ashleigh Wade, 22 of Bronx New York was found by the police on the steps outside her building with blood dripping from her hands. She initially explained to the police she had just delivered her baby. .

But on further investigation, the police found Angelikque Sutton, also 22, splayed on the floor inside Wade’s house in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to her head and neck. The baby’s placenta was found in the bathroom.

Both the baby and the mother were taken to hospital where the mother later died.

After the police’s gruesome discovery, Wade soon changed her explanation to one of self defence. She claimed the pregnant woman had attacked her with a knife but she wrestled it away and jammed it into the pregnant woman’s neck. She then cut open the woman’s stomach to save the unborn child, she told cops.

Wade is now at Elmhurst Centre Hospital in Queens undergoing psychiatric evaluation. She has been charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim had recently graduated with a criminal justice degree and was expected to get married on the same day she was attacked and killed.

The police learned from the deranged woman’s boyfriend that she had been displaying what they described as an abnormally obsessive behaviour towards babies.

The baby is in stable condition the police say.
