Man offered bail for damaging car window

A St James man accused of damaging a car window near the Charles Gordon Market in Montego Bay was offered bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Alroy Davis from Mount Carey is charged with malicious destruction of property. He was offered bail in the sum of $25,000 with one surety, and is to make his next appearance on February 4.

The court was told that the incident took place on December 12, 2015, and that Davis had not known the complainant prior to the incident. However, the allegations were not outlined.

"I am not guilty with explanation," Davis said, when asked to enter his plea to the charge.

"Sir, you do not need to explain anything if you are saying that you are not guilty," Resident Magistrate Natalie Hart-Hines told him. "Have you ever gotten locked up for anything else?" the magistrate enquired.

"I got locked up for fraud," Davis replied.

It was subsequently revealed that a statement from the police post at the Charles Gordon Market, where the incident had reportedly taken place, was outstanding from the prosecution's case-file.

It was also disclosed that Davis had not been offered station bail prior to his court appearance because he had not been able to provide the police with a fixed address for himself.

Hart-Hines ordered Davis to surrender his fingerprints to the police, and to report to the Anchovy Police Station three days a week, before subsequently setting the case for mention on February 4.
