Vendor on ammo, scamming charges

A St James vendor reportedly found with three 9mm cartridges and four lead-sheets with identity information, was offered bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Luke Brown, 31, from Bogue, is charged with illegal possession of ammunition and breaches of the Law Reform Fraudulent Transactions (Special Provisions) Act.

It is alleged that on December 23, 2015, police entered Brown's house and during a search three 9mm cartridges and four sheets with identity information were found in a dresser. A laptop and cell-phone, along with other electronic items, were also seized.

It is further alleged that since month Brown came to the Montego Bay Police Station and was interviewed. When cautioned, he reportedly said, "Officer, mi nah lie, a rent mi rent out di house fi two youths from Spanish Town and mi hear di police raid di house," and he was subsequently arrested.

Brown's attorney Henry McCurdy, made a successful bail application before RM Sandria Wong-Small, pointing out that his client did not have any previous convictions.

The prosecution told the court that its case-file in regard to the ammunition charge would require two months for completion, and a statement was outstanding in regard to the case with the lead-sheets.

RM Wong-Small subsequently offered Brown $500,000 bail with three sureties, and ordered him to report to the police twice weekly. He was also fingerprinted. He returns to court on April 13.
