St James tops murder figures

According to figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, 123 people have been murdered in Jamaica since the start of the year.

This is 26 less or a 17 per cent reduction, when compared to the same period last year.

The parish of St James recorded the most murders.

The deployment of the military has been highlighted as a factor in the reduction of murders and shootings in Westmoreland and Hanover.

Eight murders were recorded in Westmoreland and two in Hanover.

Clarendon has so far recorded 18 murders, two less than the same period last year.
