Truck collides with tour bus in Mobay
Traffic slowed to a crawl along Howard Cooke Boulevard, in Montego Bay on Tuesday morning, after a truck transporting marl crashed into the side of a Kiuki Tours coaster-bus with tour employees aboard, around 10:30.
A crowd of curious onlookers gathered around using their phones to take pictures of the scene of the accident, at the stop-light in the vicinity of the Baywest shopping plaza, while police officers sought to secure the scene and ambulance workers took the injured to hospital.
It is understood that 12 of the tour employees on the coaster-bus were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital. Four of the injured persons were subsequently taken to the hospital's Accident and Emergency Ward for additional treatment.
According to reports, the truck, which was travelling from the direction of Freeport, sped through the stop-light and slammed into the side of the coaster-bus, which was coming from the Sagicor plaza across from the intersection.
The status of the injured tour employees, including those taken to the hospital's Emergency Ward, is not known at this time. The condition of the truck driver is also not known.
When contacted, the police were unable to provide additional information with regard to the crash.
"I am not able to speak to that, and the persons who are, they are in a meeting," the officer on duty told The STAR.
