Family offers reward to find elderly man

A family is offering a $500,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to finding the patriarch of the family, who has been missing for the past two years.

According to Michael Haye, the grandson of Thomas Bennett, his grandfather went missing late 2013, and they have not been able to find their beloved family member since.

Since Bennett went missing on November 6, 2013, his family members, who live abroad, have made several trips to Jamaica in an attempt to find him. With no success, Haye said his family has come to grips with the reality that Bennett, who was 98 years old when he was last seen alive, may have died.

"We have given up hope that he is still alive given that he was an ailing man. He may be dead, but we just want closure. We just want to have a proper funeral," said Bennett's grandson.

The circumstances surrounding Bennett's disappearance have been shrouded in mystery, with various theories being discussed by members of his community in Mason Hall, St Mary.

According to Haye, the family suspects that Bennett may have been killed by persons who wanted to get their hands on his property.

An officer at the Port Maria Police Station confirmed that Bennett has been missing for more than two years.

But Haye said the police have not been helpful in their quest to find their grandfather. Despite this, Haye said the family simply wants closure.

"We urge anyone who can give us any information to come forward because if anything, we just want to bury the man that grew us," said Haye.
