Police investigate parent, teacher fight at school

A joyous occasion that was sullied by physical violence following a graduation ceremony held at the St Andrew High School for Girls on Tuesday is still under investigation.

Up to press time yesterday, a man, who is said to be a teacher at the institution, and another, who is reportedly a parent, had not been charged with any offence.

Their identities are yet to be revealed as the investigation is ongoing.

According to reports, on June 21, at about 8:45 p.m., the teacher in the matter allegedly used a knife to stab the parent, who then presumably retaliated by pulling a licensed firearm, opening fire, hitting him.

Immediately following the incident, both men were taken to hospital where they received treatment.

Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), told THE STAR that certain details surrounding the matter are presently of a sensitive nature as investigations are at a preliminary phase.

"They are preparing the files, and they will be submitted to the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) for her direction," Lindsay explained. "The investigators have asked us not to provide too many details on the matter. There are some things we need to verify before we go public."
