Eyewitness claims… CABBIE KILLED FOR TOUCHING WOMAN WITH CAR

The accidental contact between Christopher Baugh's vehicle and a pedestrian may have cost taxi operator his life on Thursday night.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that the cab driver's car briefly came in contact with a woman in Papine, St Andrew, around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to an eye witness who spoke with THE STAR, the cabbie and the woman got involved in a heated argument because of the incident.

"When she a move off, she tell him seh, 'this nah done yah so'," said the eye witness.

Reports are that around 9:30 p.m., the taxi operator was parked close to the Papine Market when a man walked up to him and opened fire.

Baugh, who is from Constitution Hill, St Andrew, was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the division, Millicent Sproul-Thomas, confirmed that there was an argument between a woman and the deceased less than an hour before his untimely demise.

Sproul-Thomas said the police are asking members of the public to come forward with any information they might have.

"I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to assist the police so we can bring this case to closure quickly," she said.

Edgerton Newman, president of Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODD), who said he was aware of the incident expressed concern about the safety of taxi operators.

" I am requesting a meeting with the Ministry of Security because our members are under siege by criminals and we need to find solutions in protecting them," Newman told THE STAR.
