CDA probes boy's burning at girls' home

The Child Development Agency (CDA) has launched an investigation into allegations that a staff member at the Church of God children’s home on Charlton Avenue, St Andrew, doused a boy with acidic substance.
Reports said the victim, Kemar Williams, 17, was hospitalised after the July 17 incident.
“We are aware of the situation, we are going to meet with the acting CEO and go through the report. Our children officers are on the ground at the location doing an investigation to figure out who did what and so on,” Public Relations and Communications Manager at CDA, Rochelle Dixon, said.
Dixon confirmed the age of the boy and said more details would be offered once available. The girls’ home is monitored and licensed by the CDA.

Without permission

Reports said Williams, who is from Grants Pen, entered the home without permission about 9 p.m. to collect a set of earphones from one of the wards. A supervisor reportedly spotted and allegedly dosed him with a substance resulting in serious burns to his face, neck, torso, arms, and abdomen.
Residents of Williams’ community said the supervisor was still working days after the attack. “When him get burn up he stand on the roadside and throw milk on him body,” said the family friend.
The Grants Pen police said there was no official report up to two days after the drama unfolded. On Friday, a representative at the home told THE STAR: “I am aware that an incident occurred, but I don’t know the details”.
