Warder accused of fraud gets bail
A correctional officer who was arrested and charged for obtaining money by false pretence was granted bail in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Randy Palmer, who is attached to the Tower Street Correctional Centre, was arrested and charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and one count of conspiracy to defraud committed between November 29 and December 9, 2016.
Allegations are that Palmer nefariously plotted with others to defraud two persons of $1,275,500 while pretending to be a policeman.
It is reported that MOCA obtained information about Palmer's devious acts and carried out a sting operation which resulted in him being arrested and charged.
His lawyer asked the court to grant bail on the basis that it was his first offence and that he was an exemplary member of his community.
Randy Palmer was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 and is to return to court on January 19.
