St Jago High School, the number four seed, and Merl Grove High, number 29 seed, locked horns into match five of round two in School Challenge Quiz.

The St Catherine-based St Jago won the toss and elected for Merl Grove to go first.

At the sound of the final bell, the score stood at 33 to 15 in favour of St Jago.

Jamaali Henry, St Jago's captain, told THE STAR that the team has high expectations for round three of the competition.

"Well, it was a very good match. Our chance in round three is a good one. Now that we see what we can improve on, we just go back to the drawing board and come back better for round three. It's been awhile, but this is the year we plan to go all the way. The last time we won was in 2010," he said.

Merl Grove, on the other hand, were seeking to go back to the third round, the furthest they have ever been.

Good match

"St Jago, they gave a good match. Well, Merl Grove, what I think we need to work on is the speed. We have never won, but we made it to the third round before. We started training last summer. Two of the girls are in fifth form, I'm in sixth form and another in fourth form", said Merl Grove team captain, Tameka Easy.

The opening challenge saw both team locked on five points heading into the speed section.

St Jago pulled away from Merl Grove, with the score standing at 30 to 12 heading into the buzzer section.

Both teams, however, gave a dismal performance, tallying only three points a piece to end the match up.
