Police families targeted - wife of district constable murdered

Senior Superintendent of Police Marlon Nesbeth admits that one of the biggest fears members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have is the grave danger their loved ones are thrust into as a result of their job.

Nesbeth comments came on the heels of the murder of the wife of one of the policeman under his command last Friday.

"It is a very dangerous job and our loved ones normally take that into consideration as to how they relate (to the public), what they expect," Superintendent Nesbeth told Western STAR.

"The fact is, we have reports of people threatening people from time to time and that has come up for investigation, and we have put our police on high alert to mitigate around these issues on them being hurt or targeted."

Around 8 p.m. last Friday, Marlene Rose, who is the wife of a district constable attached to the Cambridge Police Station in St James, was attacked and shot as she made her way home from work through a track in her community in Cambridge.

She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It is alleged by members of the community that Rose was killed because of an investigation her husband was carrying out involving lottery scammers. But Nesbeth refuted those claims, saying that the district constable was not a part of any lottery scam investigations.
