A St James man, who allegedly assaulted another inmate while in police custody, is booked to make his next appearance in the St James Parish Court in that matter on September 28.

Everton Williams is charged with unlawful wounding. He was given the return date when he appeared before presiding parish judge Sandria Wong-Small last Friday.

It is understood that Williams and the other inmate, Billy Myrie, were in custody at the Freeport police lock-up in Montego Bay when Williams shoved Myrie against a wall and injured him. It was not disclosed when the incident took place.

Myrie was in custody on a charge of murder in relation to the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Shadell Campbell, on December 26, 2017. It was not disclosed what Williams was in custody for at the time of the incident.

When the case was mentioned in court on Friday, it was indicated that an agreement had been made to pay J$50,000 in compensation to Myrie. Of that amount, J$10,000 was paid in court by Williams' girlfriend on his behalf.

Wong-Small subsequently set the case to be mentioned on September 28 and ordered that Williams be remanded until that date.
