Man applies for passport under false name

A St James man who admitted to applying for a passport under a false name in 2014 will know his fate when he returns to the St James Parish Court for sentencing on October 12.

Kemar Ebanks pleaded guilty to making a false declaration, contrary to Section 6 of the Forgery Act, when he appeared in court last Wednesday.

The court was told that on July 21, 2014, Ebanks applied for a passport in the name of David Anthony Morris. However, subsequent checks were made, and it was discovered that that was not his real name, following which he was arrested and charged.

After Ebanks entered his guilty plea, his attorney, Martyn Thomas, briefly requested that a social enquiry report should be prepared to assist in determining the defendant's sentence.

Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter for sentencing on October 12, at which time the report is expected to be completed.

"Mr Ebanks, the matter is set for sentencing on October 12, and you are bound over for that date. A social enquiry report is requested for you, and a fingerprint order is also made," Wong-Small told Ebanks, before allowing him to leave the courtroom.
