Probe launched into court bomb scares

The authorities say they are looking into recent reports surrounding at least two recent incidents of bomb scares at two parish courts, which have resulted in disrupted proceedings and forced adjournment.

Information reaching our news team is that investigations have commenced to identify any possible connection between the incidents and attempts by unscrupulous persons to stall judicial matters.

The latest incident occurred yesterday at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court after the police at the Half-Way Tree Police Station reportedly received a unanimous call that a bomb was planted at the courthouse.

THE STAR understands that the call, which was received about noon, triggered a quick response from experts.
The courthouse was evacuated and cases that were not yet mentioned were rescheduled and the affected persons notified.
Yesterday’s search did not unearth any findings.

On August 21, a bomb threat also disrupted court proceedings in Duncans, Trelawny.

Our news team gathered that an anonymous phone call was also the source of the scare. No bomb was found.

In a release sent to our news team, The Court Management Services (CMS) said, “We ask for the patience and understanding of members of the public as we work with the police to ensure the safety and security of all users of the court.”

A CMS representative told our news team that these incidents have caught the attention of the authorities who are probing the matters with urgency.

The Corporate Communications Unit confirmed yesterday's incident and told THE STAR that investigations are ongoing.
