Brother slaps sibling for 'dissing' his babymother

An entire family was last Wednesday ordered by the St James Parish Court to attend restorative-justice sessions to resolve an incident in which a man allegedly slapped his brother for insulting his babymother.

Sevon Doeman, an engineer of a Cambridge address, was answering to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm when he and his family members, who were all at court, were ordered by Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small to seek restorative justice before their next court date on December 7.

Although the date of the alleged assault was not disclosed, Doeman told the court that the incident started at the family home when his brother, the complainant, insulted both him and his babymother.

"Him (the complainant) nuh have no respect to my mother, father or me. I ran out of toothpaste and ran up to my mother to get some, and he was there and talked about my babymother and said I must go suck her, and I got angry and slapped him, and he got a bruise," said Doeman.

The judge subsequently offered bail to Doeman in the sum of $100,000 in his own surety and made an order for him and his family to seek restorative justice.

"The order is made for all of you to go to restorative justice, and the matter is transferred to the Cambridge court," Wong-Small told Doeman before setting the case for mention on December 7.
