Machete wielder shot after attacking businessman

A St James man who allegedly attacked a businessman with a machete and got shot in the leg as a result, is to settle his legal representation by July 4.

Andre Craddock, who is charged with assault at common law, was given the return date when he appeared in the St James Parish Court last Wednesday.

The court was told that Craddock did not have a lawyer to represent him. As a result, Judge Sandria Wong-Small advised him to attend the legal aid office in Montego Bay and have an attorney assigned to him.

Allegations are that on February 9, Craddock went to a party at a Montego Bay beach and boarded a party boat at the venue.

While there, he began behaving strangely, before taking up a machete and threatening some of the party’s patrons.

It is further alleged that the complainant, who was co-owner of the property, tried to calm down Craddock down, but Craddock advanced towards him with the machete in a threatening manner. The complainant then pulled his firearm and shot Craddock in the leg.

The matter was reported to the police, and Craddock was subsequently arrested and charged.
