Dog sniffs out British woman’s ganja

A British woman, who reportedly tried to export more than 40 pounds of ganja that was found by a sniffer dog is to return to the St James Parish Court today.

Twenty-eight-year-old tattoo artist Zharrin Simmons, of a London address, appeared before presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small last Wednesday to answer to the charges of possession of, dealing in, and attempting to export ganja. However, she did not enter a plea.

According to the allegations, on May 28, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Simmons checked in at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to board a flight to Manchester, England.

It is further alleged that while Simmons was preparing to board the plane, a sniffer dog alerted the on-duty police officers to a black suitcase that she had checked in.

The suitcase was searched and 42 pounds of ganja was found inside it, following which Simmons was arrested and charged.

During last Wednesday’s court proceedings, Simmons’ attorney, Khadine Colman, asked for full disclosure of documents from the prosecution as well as an early mention date for continuation.

Judge Wong-Small subsequently set the case for mention for today and remanded Simmons in custody until that time.
