Man beats babymother with steel
A man was ordered to compensate his child's mother for injuries she sustained after he beat her repeatedly with a piece of steel.
Mark McCormack pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday. The court heard that on April 18 at 10:30 a.m., the complainant and McCormack had an argument, when he used a piece of steel to beat her all over her body, including in the back of her head, causing a wound.
It was reported that McCormack also bit her on her elbow. Police reports stated that the complainant was saved by her three dogs who bit McCormack on his leg. But McCormack accused the complainant of making mischief and said he is trying to avoid her.
"She have her friend come to my house and every time I go in, I see water at the doorway or she (the friend) wash one whole heap a panty and hang one line a panty behind my housetop. I go to her and tell her I don't want she hang anything around there cause you making mischief," McCormack told Senior Parish Court Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague.
Ended their relationship two years ago
McCormack told the court that he and the complainant ended their relationship two years ago and alleged that the incident happened because she started a relationship with his cousin.
"She and my cousin deh because me did love her so much and me did all over her, she think seh me ago run her down. Me come so and a hold my own, she come and a mek mischief with me," McCormack explained.
The judge reprimanded McCormack for his actions, and told him that he was wrong to beat the complainant. The police also showed the piece of steel that was used in the incident.
Cole-Montague then ordered McCormack to compensate the complainant $150,000 for her injuries. He paid $20,000 yesterday and is expected to return to court on June 25 with a minimum of $50,000.
