Man charged with stealing pigs
A St Andrew man who is accused of stealing a drove of pigs was yesterday remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
When the matter was mentioned, Dushane Brown pleaded not guilty to praedial larceny before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague.
The court heard that on July 1 at 5:30 a.m., Brown was seen beside the complainant's pig pen with several pigs in a bag on a handcart. It is reported that the complainant, who was not in court, ran from the area in fear of her life and when she returned later, it was discovered that 30 of her adult pigs were stolen and the pen was damaged.
"Did you have anything at all to do with the complainant's pigs? They're saying that they saw you in the morning at 5:30. Where were you?" the judge asked.
"No, Your Honour, that is a lie. I was in my bed at that time," the accused said. Brown, 29, is also before the courts answering to a charge of murder. He is expected to return to court on September 21.
