Senior citizen among four shot in St Andrew
A senior citizen was one of four persons who were shot and injured on Fitzgerald Avenue, close to Maxfield Avenue in St Andrew yesterday afternoon.
The incident occurred about 2 p.m. According to a resident, the man had just collected his pension at the Whitfield Town Post Office and was walking along the roadway when he was shot.
"Mi feel sorry fi di old man because him nuh run at all. Mi see when di man leave off the post office step and den di car just drive dung and shot the man. Him couldn't even run and him poor bones can't even set. The man them nuh care at all because dem must see say is an elderly person get shot," he said.
The St Andrew South police have confirmed that all four persons turned up at the Kingston Public Hospital with gunshot wounds were in stable condition. An officer on the scene said the incident could be part of a long-standing feud in the area. It is reported that the gunmen, who were travelling in a grey Toyota Voxy, drove along Maxifeld Avenue and began firing at a group of people. An alleged eyewitness said the sole female that was shot was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"The lady whe get shot in her vagina or near da part deh just run a little stall. Mi honestly nuh think she was the target but because when the shot start fire, the men dem a try escape, so dem run towards her stall and a so she get shot. She is a big woman too and she recently did an operation and put in a pacemaker and now dis," the resident said.
The residents told THE STAR that this incident have left them cowering in fear and they implore the police to maintain a strong presence in the area.
"The police are here a lot of times but the man dem work off a phone call so dem always two steps ahead of the police. Shots used to fire when di security post dem deh here but now tings a get rougher. Mi a beg di police dem to just stay here because mi want a peaceful Christmas. Right now mi fraid to come a mi window," a resident said.
