Woman fined for ganja seeds in FedEx package

A St James woman who tried to send a package of ganja seeds to her grandfather through delivery company FedEx, was slapped with a total fine of $32,000 when she appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday.

Christina Garboldy pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and attempting to export ganja when her case was brought before presiding Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley.

The court was told that on April 7, 2021, Garboldy attempted to send a parcel through FedEx to her grandfather. The parcel was examined by the authorities and found to contain a potato pudding and a yellow envelope with three CD cases.

When opened, the CD cases were revealed to contain 4.46 ounces of ganja seeds. Garboldy was subsequently arrested on October 28 and charged in connection with the find.

The court was not told the reason for the delay between the discovery of the ganja seeds and Garboldy’s eventual arrest.

When given the opportunity to explain herself to the court, Garboldy said that the seeds had been placed in the package in error.

“I was sending this package to my grandfather, and I had these seeds, which are from what I smoke. I mistakenly put them in the package,” said Garboldy.

Judge Ashley subsequently ordered Garboldy to pay a fine of $2,000 or serve three months in prison for possession of ganja, and $30,000 or three months in prison for attempting to export ganja.

Garboldy was also sentenced to a six-month prison term, suspended for two years.
