13-y-o eyes career in engineering
Tyreek Hendricks, a 13-year-old student at Guy's Hill High School, has gained viral fame on the popular social media platform TikTok for his impressive feat of converting a regular table radio into a Bluetooth device.
The teen used a cracked cell phone as a controller to operate the added Bluetooth feature, which he ingeniously integrated into the JWIN radio by incorporating a charging port and a battery.
His mother, Nickiesha Campbell, was surprised when she saw his latest creation. She said that she often sees him around the house tinkering with old electrical items or attempting to create something.
Tyreek, who has not been exposed to electrical studies, told THE STAR that he relies on his own ingenuity and keeps experimenting until things work.
"The first thing I ever took apart was a DVD player. My mother was about to throw it away, but I asked her to give it to me. One day mi just start pull it down until mi mek it start work, and she a ask me how mi do it," the youngster said.
With passion evident in his voice, Tyreek shares his aspirations to become an engineer.
"I do have friends at school, but I spend a lot of time on my own. I'm trying to stay focused on my schoolwork so I can excel and surprise my mother. I want to be able to help people in the future by becoming an engineer," Tyreek added.
