Complainant tries to drop revenge porn case

November 30, 2023

A Corporate Area woman who recently rekindled the strained relationship with her boyfriend failed at her attempt to have a matter against him disposed of in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.

Her boyfriend, who will not be named to protect the identity of the complainant, is charged on an indictment for malicious communication. He is accused of videoing himself and the complainant having sex, then posting it on Instagram, after she informed him that she was ending the relationship.

However, Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque was peeved, after being shown screenshots and other material evidence that the complainant was seeking to end the matter against the accused.

"The citizens of this country need to understand themselves, do not waste time. I am not going to be the judge who sits passively and allows anybody to waste nobody time. Even when I sit down in here, I take what I do very seriously. I understand what you're saying that you are in a relationship and you don't want to continue with the case. But Madam, there are other things at play which, unfortunate for you, you have the luxury of not considering. But I consider those other things," the senior jurist said.

Cole-Montaque indicated that she would adjourn the matter until January 12, 2024 to facilitate further investigation. The accused was ordered to report to the police four times weekly as a condition of his bail. He is to return to court on the date agreed.
