Flight attendant held with cocaine to stand trial in January
The St James Parish Court has set January 31, 2024 as the date to start the trial of Michelle Virgo, the flight attendant who was arrested and charged after three pounds of cocaine were reportedly found in her luggage at the Sangster International Airport earlier this year.
Virgo, a 44-year-old dual citizen of Jamaica and the US, got the trial date and had her bail extended following her latest court appearance last Thursday. The court was told that a partial disclosure of documents had been made to her attorney, Martyn Thomas. Following further discussions, presiding parish judge Sasha-Marie Ashley set the January date for Virgo's trial and extended her bail.
The allegations are that, on June 6, Virgo was preparing to board a JetBlue flight destined for New York, at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.
During a routine security check, three pounds of cocaine, estimated at a street value of US$75,000 (approximately $11.5 million), was reportedly found in a false compartment in Virgo's suitcase. Under caution, the defendant allegedly said, "Cocaine? This is unbelievable."
She was subsequently charged on June 10 with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, to include possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine.
