Lawyer claims naivety in bail hearing
The lawyer of a young woman being accused of collecting $2 million by false pretence, claims her client is merely a victim of her own naivety.
Twenty-one-year-old Taneka Williamson, from Spanish Town in St Catherine, was reportedly given the sum of money for the purchase of a motor vehicle.
The STAR understands that after several attempts by the complainant to get the vehicle or his money returned were unfruitful, and as such, a police report was made.
Williamson was subsequently arrested and charged.
However, the court heard today that the accused only provided the bank account to receive the funds for the purchase. Instead, Attorney-at-Law Denise Hinson alleged that it was Williamson's uncle who defrauded the complainant, not her client.
Following her lawyer's pleads, Williamson was granted bail in the amount of $400,000 and on condition that she report to the Spanish Town police twice weekly and reappear.
She is set to reappear in court on March 1.
