Jolyan Silvera taken into police custody
Former member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera was picked up by detectives assigned to the Major Investigation Division (MID) late Thursday afternoon.
The STAR understands he was picked up about 4:00 p.m. and is to be questioned regarding the murder of his wife Melissa, who died in November of last year.
Initial reports indicated that Melissa, 42, died in her sleep on November 10 at her home along Diamond Road in Stony Hill, St Andrew.
An autopsy performed three weeks after her death unearthed at least three bullet fragments in her body. This prompted the police to launch a murder investigation.
The police had questioned Silvera on two previous occasions as part of the probe. His licensed firearm was seized for ballistic testing.
But Silvera’s attorney Peter Champagnie said his client was not treated as a suspect at the time.
Melissa was laid to rest last Friday following a thanksgiving ceremony at the St Andrew Parish church. Silvera, attended the funeral service and was seen weeping on several occasions.
