Clarendon farmer among two charged with kidnapping
Asham Gallimore, a farmer from Rectory Road in Clarendon, was arrested and charged on Sunday after being implicated in a kidnapping in the parish.
His co-accused, 31-year-old labourer Phillip Robinson, has also been arrested and charged in the matter.
According to the May Pen police, on Sunday, January 14, a man boarded a taxi with the driver and a passenger on board. On reaching his destination, he asked to be let off; however, the driver refused to stop.
The passenger allegedly brandished a machete and robbed the man of his Samsung Galaxy A13 cell phone valued at $25,000 and $10,000 cash.
It is further alleged they later took the man to a section of River Heights, also in the parish, where he was beaten, and threatened to be killed.
The victim managed to escape his attackers; he was chopped in the process. He later reported the incident to the police and was assisted to the hospital, where he was treated.
Robinson and Gallimore were taken into custody the following day after an investigation, and charges were laid against them on Friday, January 19, after an identification parade.
They are scheduled to appear in the May Pen Parish Court on Thursday, January 25.
