The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says its teams are currently addressing outages in some sections of the island, which have been caused by unusually high winds impacting the distribution system.

However, director of corporate communications at JPS, Winsome Callum, says the persistent rain has slowed progress in some areas.

JPS says it expects power to be restored to some customers by the end of the day.

It says the parishes which have been most affected are Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth.

JPS says in some extreme situations, wind borne missiles, such as zinc sheets, have come into contact with power lines.

The JPS explains that restoration is highly dependent on the weather conditions and nature of the defects, upon arrival of the crews to the affected locations.
