Fake robbery report lands man in jail

June 28, 2024

A fake report to the police means that a young man will not be spending his summer outdoors as he was remanded in custody by Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell on Thursday.

Alex Harriott, 22, pleaded guilty to creating public mischief in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court and is to be sentenced on October 30. It was shared that on June 9, Harriott attended the Half-Way Tree Police Station to report that he was robbed by men aboard a Toyota Probox while walking along Molynes Road. The court heard that an investigation commenced into Harriott's report, but subsequent information unearthed by the police proved that Harriott was at the Caymanas River in St Catherine.

"So you mixed up the time, date and place?" Burrell asked rhetorically.

She then made Harriott the subject of a fingerprint order and ordered that his criminal records be made available at the next court date. A social enquiry report was also requested by the senior jurist.

"This is a very serious, serious offence. You are remanded in custody," the judge said before Harriott was carted from the prisoner's dock.
