Cuban nationals beat countryman over bed base
A Cuban national is now in hospital getting treatment for injuries he reportedly received when he was attacked by three of his countrymen at a furniture store.
Dayton Santana, Danny Santana and Madestro Santana appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, facing charges of unlawful wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property. The court heard that on July 15, at 1 p.m., the complainant and another man went to a store on Orange Street, said to be operated by the Santanas, to deliver a bed base. It was shared by prosecutors that the Santanas attacked the complainants with a 2x4 board, beating them all over their bodies as well as destroying the bed base.
"The allegations are stemming from a rift between the men, that the complainants used to work with the three accused men, making bed bases like the ones he delivered. The complainants left in January or February this year," the investigator indicated to the court.
None of the Santanas entered a plea to the charges before Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks as they accepted the opportunity to attend on the spot mediation. The mediation agreement yielded that the men were to compensate the complainants with $200,000 with the first payment of $100,000 made in court on Wednesday.
The matter was adjourned until July 30 for mention.
