Christopher Martin condemns fatal shooting at his grandmother's wake
Entertainer Christopher Martin has condemned the "senseless" killing of a man and the shooting and injuring of eight people at a wake for his grandmother in Cudjoe Hill, St Catherine, early Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old labourer Oneil Spencer, otherwise called 'Tajay', of Back Pastures district, St Catherine.
It is reported that about 12:45 a.m. Spencer was at the wake when shots were fired, with nine persons getting hit.
They were rushed to hospital and Spencer later died.
In a post on Instagram on Wednesday morning, Martin said it was devastating to see the violence cast a shadow over what should have been a moment of peace and remembrance.
"She (his grandmother) was a woman of deep faith and endless sacrifice, someone who taught me the true meaning of love and community," he stated.
"I condemn all forms of violence and extend my deepest sympathies to the families affected by this senseless act. I pray for those involved to come forward and for our community to support the authorities in bringing justice.
"Jamaica, we must do better. Life is too precious to be consumed by violence. Let’s choose peace," he continued.
