Accused breaches bail order to secure job
A Corporate Area man was remanded in custody for a month before his freedom is to be determined, as he was brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for breaching his bail conditions.
Attorney-at-law Sashagay Shaw admitted that her client, Jevaughn Bartley, breached the court orders, but did so because he was trying to secure a job. Bartley is before the local parish court and a condition of his bail was to reside with his brother in Rollington Town. He was also ordered to report to the police weekly. However, an application was made in the court to vary that condition of bail, as Bartley's brother had left the island for the United States of America. With this variation of bail, Bartley was to reside in St Mary and continue reporting to the police.
However, on August 22, Bartley visited the Rollington Town Police Station after failing to report to the police for several days. He was subsequently taken into custody and checks revealed that Bartley was still living in Rollington Town.
"He said that he got a job that he did not want to lose, Your Honour," Shaw submitted.
But Parish Judge Leighton Morris indicated that Bartley's explanation was not sufficient, as he could have his lawyer make another application for bail verification. Bartley was then remanded in custody until September 27, when his matter returns to court.
