Boy seen in viral attack on schoolmate charged

A charge of assault occasioning bodily harm has been laid against the 12-year-old boy who was seen on video beating up another male student on the compound of their school in Portland.

The viral video has drawn much public criticism.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, was charged today.

A date is yet to be set for him to go to court.

The incident happened on Thursday, September 12.

In the 47-second video, the 12-year-old boy was seen shoving, punching, and kicking the other boy.

Following the incident, the matter was reported to the police and an investigation was launched.
