Alleged gang leader among three killed in Hanover police operation
An alleged gang leader is said to be one of three men killed in an alleged shootout with the police on the Mosquito Cove main road in Hanover on Wednesday.
Dead is Clive Lawson, also known as 'Greedy', from Mount Salem in St James.
Lawson was reportedly the leader of the Katon Defence Force gang, which operates in the area. The police say he was also a suspect in a recent attack on Campbell Lane, St James, in which a man was killed and several homes were set on fire.
Acting on intelligence, the Area 1 Fugitive Apprehension Team conducted a special operation in the parish about 5:35 p.m.
A dark-coloured Toyota Voxy motorcar was signalled to stop.
Four men allegedly armed with guns exited the vehicle and opened fire at the lawmen.
The cops reportedly returned fire which led to a running gun battle. Three of the men were shot during the exchange while the other escaped.
The injured were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Two guns were seized.
