The St Elizabeth police have arrested and charged two men from Manchester in relation to the robbery and murder that took place at a supermarket in Maggotty last month.

Thirty-year-old electrician Ramanno Smile and 35-year-old chef Shawn Reid are both charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravation, possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The police allege that on October 19, Smile and Reid entered a supermarket and posed as customers.

One of the men brandished a handgun, and the other stood at the door as the lookout.

The man with the gun allegedly jumped the counter and robbed the owner of an undetermined amount of phone cards, cigarettes and money.

During the robbery, 62-year-old Aggrey Atkinson, a businessman of Russell Hill district, St Elizabeth, was shot and killed.

The men escaped in a waiting motor car.

A report was made to the police.

During an operation on Thursday the men were captured with two illegal firearms. They were then charged.
