Taxi man 'Straight' charged with scamming millions from woman

April 22, 2026

A St Thomas taxi operator is facing fraud charges after allegedly collecting $3.5 million from a close friend to purchase vehicles, then using the money for himself.

Charged is 36-year-old Norris Campbell otherwise called 'Straight' of Spring Garden District.

Reports from the Morant Bay police are that the complainant, who lives overseas, expressed interest in starting a taxi business and turned to Campbell for help in sourcing vehicles.

It is alleged that between February 10 and March 16, the woman transferred a total of $3.5 million in several instalments from her Canadian bank account to Campbell to purchase three motor vehicles.

However, investigations later revealed that no vehicles were bought, and the money was allegedly used for his own personal benefit.

The matter was reported to the police, and Campbell was subsequently apprehended and charged following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

He is now facing a charge of fraudulent conversion.

A date for his appearance in court is being finalised.
