Ministry probes viral video of student being beaten by classmates
Shock and outrage are spreading after a disturbing video surfaced showing a student being brutally attacked by other boys in school uniform at what is believed to be a prominent Corporate Area high school.
The 56-second clip, which began circulating on social media over the weekend, captures a frightening scene where several students surround a lone boy, pin him down, and repeatedly assault him.
In the video, one attacker is seen gripping the student by the collar and slapping him multiple times to the face, while another lashes him with what appears to be a belt. During the assault, the boy doing the slapping is heard questioning the victim about money, adding a chilling layer to the already violent encounter.
The Education Ministry has since moved swiftly, ordering an immediate investigation into the incident as public concern continues to mount.
Portfolio Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon condemned the attack, making it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
"Violence and bullying have no place in our schools, and we will use every resource at our disposal to ensure those responsible face appropriate consequences," she said in a statement on Monday.
While the school has not been officially named, authorities have confirmed that teams will be deployed to the institution as part of the ongoing probe.
Parliamentary Secretary Senator Marlon Morgan and Schools Safety and Security Director Richard Troupe are also expected to visit the school as tensions rise and calls grow for accountability.
Details surrounding when the incident occurred remain unclear, but the graphic nature of the video has already sparked widespread reaction among parents and the public.
