It has been almost three decades since Kingston College (KC) lifted the last of their 14 Manning Cup titles in 1986, and die - hard KC fans are yearning for the day when they will again be crowned corporate area football kingpins.

Former Wolmer's coach Ludlow Bernard, who on Tuesday guided them to a 2-0 win over Waterford - their fifth straight win in Zone G, has been handed the charge of breaking the 29 years drought for the North Street 'purples.'

The team also boasts one of the most impressive defensive record with only one goal conceded and 13 scored. Only Wolmer's (no goal) and Charlie Smith (one goal) can match or better that statistic.

However, if they are to pose a real threat for the title Bernard says they have to improve in front of goal as they create numerous opportunities each game but are very wasteful.

deadlock

It was the same on Tuesday, as they had Waterford against the ropes for most of the game but had to wait 33 minutes for Javain Brown to break the deadlock. It was even worse after the interval as they made a number of easy opening but failed to take advantage until Richard Byfield added the second in added time.

"We are perfect in terms of win but not perfect in terms of the execution," Bernard told Star Sports afterwards. "Today (Tuesday) was probably our worst game, it wasn't the usual KC swashbuckling performance but you can't get that every day and the accumulation of games over a short period is probably catching up with us."

to improve

With the defense seemingly intact, the Harbour View tactician says it's at the other end of the field that they need to improve if the are serious about challenging for the title.

"We create a lot of chances but we are not putting them away and we need to be a lot more clinical. Today's (Tuesday) game was a very good example but if we can get it right chances are we can go all the way. The next round is going to be a lot tougher so we need to start executing from here (this round)," he said.
