Bennett pleased with Miller, Campbell

JAMAICA Scorpions head coach Junior Bennett has expressed satisfaction with the early season form of lead spinner Nikita Miller, and up-and-coming opener, John Campbell.

The duo, who are expected to play lead roles as Jamaica seek to recapture the regional four-day title, which they surrendered two seasons ago, has been outstanding in the opening set of trial matches.

Miller, who is still hoping for a recall to the West Indies, claimed five for 25 on Thursday's opening day of the fourth trial match at Kensington Park.

This was to go along with four for 51, which he claimed in the third game, and two wicket hauls in the opening fixtures.

"Nikita bowled a good spell Wednesday, continuing where he left off in the third game," said Bennett of the 33-year-old.

"It's also good to see him coming into his own with the start of the tournament not too far way, as, our most senior bowler, we will need him to lead from the front."

The 22-year-old Campbell, in the meanwhile, has come in for plaudits for his three half-centuries to date, to be the most consistent batsman of the trials.

"John batted well for his half-century," said Bennett, after his score of 69 on Wednesday.

"He, however, needs to start converting those big half-centuries into hundreds.

Campbell's 50 followed scores of 71 and 88 in first and second matches.

The trial matches are to help select the Scorpion's team for the second staging of the WICB Professional League.

The Scorpion's finished a disappointing fourth last season.
