JAMAICA'S franchise cricket team has officially been named the Jamaica Scorpions.

The Board of Directors of the Jamaica Cricket Franchise Development Limited (JCFDL) made the announcement yesterday. According to the release, the name was decided on at a Board meeting led by Board Chairman Don Wehby on September 30 at GraceKennedy's Harbour Street headquarters.

In explaining how the Board decided on this name, Mr Wehby said,

"We wanted a name that was exciting, something to suggest that the team was hardy, adaptable and survivors by nature. We also wanted to convey that the team also has a 'sting' in their game. The name 'scorpions' conveyed all of these characteristics and so we thought it was perfect for the team."

The Jamaica Scorpions will be on show for the first time using this name in the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League (PCL), starting in November 2015 and concluding in March 2016.

The Scorpions will be engaged in five home matches schedule for Sabina Park on the following days against the following teams:

1. Round 2 November 13-16, 2015

Jamaica Scorpions versus Windwards Islands Volcanoes

2. Round 4 December 4-7, 2015

Jamaica Scorpions versus Leeward Islands Hurricanes

3. Round 5 December 11-14, 2015

Jamaica Scorpions versus Guyana Jaguars

4. Round 7 February 19-22, 2016
