Miller supports young skipper Palmer Jr

Jamaica Scorpions Super50 captain, Nikita Miller, believes his young four-day counterpart, Paul Palmer Jr, has what it takes to succeed in the 2015 WICB Professional Cricket League.

Miller, one of five players in the team's 13-man squad with West Indies experience, made the revelation yesterday prior to the team's departure for Barbados for their first four-day fixture.The Scorpions, to led by 23-year-old Palmer Jr for the first time, will tomorrow lock horn with last year's runners-up Barbados Pride at Kensington Oval.

"Captaincy will be new for him at this level, but, he has our support as senior players, including myself, David Bernard, Carlton Baugh, and Chadwick Walton," explained Miller.

"He is a promising leader, who tends to think about the game, and so far conducted himself well.

"He is also respected by his peers, and once he continues to grow in the role, he should have a bright future."

Palmer Jr, an opening batsman, with two first-class appearance for the Combined Campuses and Colleges, is one of two players who are yet to represent the Jamaica.

The other is batsman Barbadian batsman, Kirk Edwards, who was drafted earlier this year as part of a new WICB policy, which mandates that each of the six participating teams must have two non-native regional players.

Meanwhile, Miller, who is set to lead the team's bowling unit, has pointed to the scoring of runs as key if the team is to improve on their fifth place finish last season.

"It's a talented team, even though it's a young team, as most of this guys would have played in some point in time at the first-class level," he stated.

"Normally, we are good bowling team, but, I don't think we have been putting a lot of runs on the board," he said.

"If we can do that, and, thus put more pressure on the opponent, we should be Ok."
