@Normal:Captain Basil Williams (centre) and members of the Jamaica one-day team celebrate with the Geddes Grant/Harrison Line Trophy at the Norman Manley International Airport in 1984.

The funeral of former hard-hitting West Indies and Jamaica batsman Basil 'Shot Gun' Williams will be held next Friday at The Church of Ascension, Mona, beginning at 11 a.m.

Williams, who represented the West Indies in seven Test matches during the later 1970s, died on Sunday, October 25 of a heart attack.

Remembered for his uncompromising swashbuckling style of batting as an opener, Williams was among an elite few, who scored a century on Test debut.

He went on to register an average of 39.08, shade under the respectable milestone average of 40, and throughout his brief career scored two 100s.

The former Jamaica captain also scored 15 centuries at the first-class level for an average of 36.02.

Meanwhile, the family of the late former Jamaica selector and Kensington Cricket Club member is asking attendants, where possible, to dress in colour-coded attire.

"The family has advised visitors to wear cheerful colours," the West Indies Players Association said in a statement yesterday.
