World Cup is the goal - Drakes
Coach Vasbert Drakes says early qualification to next year's ICC Women World Cup remains one of West Indies Women's main objectives during the final set of matches of their five-match series against England.
"One of our objectives is early qualification to the World Cup. Our plan, therefore, is to put our best foot forward not only to win the series, but also in the processs, gain as many points as possible."
The World Cup will see the top four teams of the ongoing multi-year, eight-team ICC Women Championship qualifying automatically.
The West Indies are currently second in the championship with 20 points, one more than England, and a sweep for either team of the remaining three matches would earn them a spot at the World Cup.
This is with both teams having three qualifying matches remaining after the ongoing series.
The West Indies are down to face India in India, while England are scheduled to play away to Sri Lanka next month.
Australia are on 30 points and are leaders of the championship and have already qualified, while New Zealand currently occupy the number-four position on 16 points. Two points are awarded for a qualifying match win and one for a no-result.
"If we were to not qualify early, there is always the route of going through the play-offs, but that is not what we would want. We want to secure our place.
"The aim, therefore, is to step up our game a notch, and if possible, win the remaining fixtures in a convincing manner."
