Scorpions batting heartens Miller

Captain Nikita Miller has expressed pleasure with the form shown by his batsmen in the Jamaica Scorpions 132-run win over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in WICB/Digicel First-Class Championship action at Sabina Park at the weekend.

The Scorpions, who have been struggling to post scores above 200 in their previous three matches, made 314 in their first innings and 229 in their second, which helped to set the Red Force a winning total of 338.

The Gus Logie-conditioned Red Force, who like Jamaica entered the contest with a one win, one draw, one loss record, however, were blown away for 205 in their second innings after making 206 in their first.

"'I wouldn't say I am totally comfortable with the batting, but the approach that I saw in the first innings, that's the approach that I want to see,'' said Miller.

"The last innings of the last game we played against Barbados, we showed signs of improvement, and we came here in the first innings of this game, and showed the same sort of improvement. If we can therefore continue in this trend we should be alright going forward,'' he declared.

Miller, who during the encounter claimed career-best figures of nine for 41 in the second innings, mentioned the players he thought showed the requisite application.

"Andre McCarthy and Brandon King played well in the first innings, Jermaine Blackwood played well in the second innings,'' he highlighted of the first innings two top scorers. McCarthy compiled 82 and King 78 in the first innings with Blackwood getting 81 in the second.

''I also believe John Campbell played well in the first innings given the start he got against the new ball. Unfortunately, however, he did not get a half-century or a big score for us.''

Jamaica will next play away to the Leeward Islands in a day-night encounter this weekend.
