Scorpions' Taylor feeling good after aggressive 86

United States-born opening batsman Steven Taylor is backing himself to get even bigger totals after he got his first significant score for the Jamaica Scorpions in the WICB Regional Super50 Tournament in Barbados on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old left-hander, who impressed selectors of the Jamaican franchise team during trials, blasted a typically aggressive 86 off 82 balls to help the Scorpions beat Guyana Jaguars by 20 runs at Kensington Oval on Tuesday.

His knock, which included six sixes and five fours, was the cornerstone of 255 made by the Scorpions.

Guyana, in reply, were held to 235.

''It has given me a lot of confidence as I was low on confidence before, so now getting these runs is just pushing me forward,'' said Taylor, who was born in the USA to Jamaican parents and has represented the United States internationally.

Taylor, who was drafted last year by Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League Twenty20, was playing his fourth match of the Super50. He twice made seven before following up with 21 in his third game.

"It felt good," Taylor said in describing his knock, which ended when he was run out midway the innings. "The ball was coming off nicely off the bat, so I just knew that all I had to do was to just carry on.''
