Jamaica, Guyana set for T20 final

Jamaica and Guyana Jaguars will contest the final of the second annual Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association Tri Nation Independence Cup Twenty20 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.

The showdown, set for a 7 p.m. start, will see the teams meeting for the third time in the tournament.

Led by captain Chadwick Walton, Jamaica won the first meeting by 50 runs after scoring a challenging 179 off their 20 overs and restricting the Guyanese to 129 for eight.

The second encounter saw Guyana recording a two-run win despite posting a below-par 106 for six.

Opener Steven Taylor, 35, and all-rounder Fabien Allen, 19, made the most runs for the Andrew Richardson-coached Jamaican outfit against West Indies spinner Veerasammy Permaul, three wickets for eight runs.

"The team is very confident at this time," said Jamaica manager Kerry Scott.

"Guyana is a quality team, and it will be very difficult to beat them, but we hope to have our best game yet in the final.

"The performances so far have not been great with the bat, however, players have shown improvement as the games have gone by."
